UWSA (United Wa State Army) and Burmese Government Military fiercely fought each other at Loi Ar Lu mountain, on June 4 in eastern Shan State.
This clash is the first time ever break out between Government and UWSA, and because of government’s apprehension of logging in Wa’s territory.
It started at 8:00 am in the morning, when a force of angry UWSA troops with 150 soldiers, 5 trucks and 15 four-wheel trucks marched from Murng Gud to Nar Goun Mu, and passed through to Murng Kit town.
By the time UWSA reached there at 13:30, they clashedwith LIB-65 under the control of operation command-14 for 15 minutes, but the loss and hurts of both sides have not known yet.
On 9 May 1989, the Burmese government signed a cease-fire agreement with UWSA, formally ending the conflict, and this battle is the first to happen since then.
The United Wa State Army (UWSA) have recently said that they would not attend an ethnic summit next month in Karen State’s Law Khee Lar, where ethnic leaders will gather to discuss the signing of the nationwide ceasefire agreement.
But because of this, it could be government’s testing the water, said the source based in Wa area to Tai Freedom.
